Dead Horse Point, Arches and Canyonlands National Park Utah –Wednesday 5th- Friday 7th May 2010

Today we set off late after having a clean up while we were in an RV park (which is only about once to twice a week to catch up on washing and charging up the computer, camera etc,). We just love the rough camps in the state or national parks as they are in a so much better locality than the commercial RV parks that are usually next to the highway and or the railway. You pay $35 to $40 a night to have your brains blown out by the noise and in the state and national parks you pay between nothing and $20 for a wonderful setting and peace and quiet and the stars sit on your shoulders and you can also have a campfire.

We stayed in Horsethief campground state park for three nights and travelled back into the Arches National Park as we couldn’t get into the Arches to camp. This turned out to be a good decision as we went up another mountain to get into the Arches park and it would have been a hard slug with the 5th wheel behind. We walked our butts off all day trekking into the Navajo, Partition and Wall Arches. We went past the Wall Arch which collapsed in August 2008 right over the trail that we were walking on. We saw a few more arches on the way back out of the trail including Pine Tree and Tunnel Arch. We ate our picnic lunch at a table near the carpark and in the afternoon we walked into Skyline, Broken and Sand Dune Arches. We then drove back towards the park entrance and went on the upper Delicate Arch viewpoint trail. By this time we were completely knackered (this seems to be a regular problem) but have got some great photos to remember it by.

The next day we had a leisurely drive and a few short walks in Canyonlands NP which was thoroughly enjoyable.
