Decided to hit the coast for a while (haven’t seen a beach in a long time) and decided to go via the Columbia Gorge scenic route. The first night we camped at Beacon Rock State Park where we hiked to the top of the so called second biggest rock in the world, (or was it the universe? or was it the US don’t know where the biggest one is). I suppose you can’t count Uluru as it’s a monolith.
Well this is it Beacon Rock - We had a fun time climbing up it
The next day we travelled on to Lincoln City Oregon, stopping at quite a few waterfalls on the way. We also called in at the Evergreen Aviation Museum for a look at the Spruce Goose and the Gooney Bird. Lincoln City remined us of some of the coastal towns in Australia and was quite busy as they don’t get that long a summer here and everyone was out and about. We found a nice campground on a river not far out of town.

The next day we only travelled a short way, stopping at Cape Lookout State Park. We had planned to maybe swim and sunbake on the beach but no it was way too cold for us so we had to contend ourselves with a walk, mind you the locals thought it was quite alright to swim in the cold water.
Freezing cold but they still put up their umbrella and get in the water
Wednesday and we drove the scenic three capes road to Nehelam Bay State Park, calling in at Cape Meares lighthouse along the way. The whole place was clouded in fog and we caught a few glimpses of the view in between gusts of fog. By lunchtime we were in Tillamook where we went through the cheese factory before driving on to Nehelam Bay where we set up camp in the state park and went for a walk along the beach where it was blowing a gale and we got sandblasted. So much for our couple of days on the beach. Nevermind it was still quite nice but not like our beaches.
