10th May 2018 Florida Week 1

After a hassle free flight with Virgin Australia to LA and a connecting flight to Tampa Florida we arrived at John and Stacha's house in Sarasota for a couple of days to set up our phone and get organised to pick up the motorhome in Panama City.

We spent 3 days at Moon and Cherie,s house in Panama City washing and polishing the motorhome and on Sunday 6th May we set off with John on board to learn the ropes.

On the way we had the brakes seize up and had to change the caliper on the side of the road.  Better to happen rather than later as we had John's car to go and get parts.

Burt Munro to the rescue yet again

We were hoping to stay at Grayton Beach State Park but they were full up so we went another 20 miles to Fred Gannon Rocky Bayou State Park for 4 nights.

This was a lovely campsite on the edge of a bay with lots of marine life including many dolphins.

We did a day trip in the car to visit the Gulf Shores of Alabama and the Bellingrath House and Gardens which was built in 1935 by the Bellingraths who was the first franchisee for the Coca Cola company.  He bought the franchise for the Mobile area for $1500 and became a millionaire.

On 10th May John has left to pick up Stacha from the airport and they will join us in a couple of months.  We have moved on to stay  at Blackwater River State Park on our way to meet up with Moon and Cherie.

  1. Hi June & Hughie.
So cold this weekend at home, winter's finally hit. Looks like warm weather over there. Enjoy your motorhome travels!
