Friday 22nd June 2018 - Loving Montana

Wednesday 20th June 2018 - How hungry can a horse get

We haven't travelled very far today but boy have we been looking at some magnificent scenery.  We stocked up a few supplies in Kalispell and then drove to Hungry Horse Dam.  After having a look in the visitors centre we drove across the dam wall into the mountains alongside the Flathead river.  There are multiple campsites in here, some attracting a small fee and the rest free.  This is a little known treasure.

Some facts; The dam was completed in 1953 and is the highest dam in Montana with the wall being 564 ft tall.  It dams the Flathead River.

Got to the Doris campground and stopped, time to just sit and soak up the scenery, with a glass of red in hand of course.

Thursday 21st June 2018 -  Whitefish and Columbia Falls

We drove into Whitefish in particular to look at the Railway Museum there which turned out to be the least interesting place in town.  After visiting the museum which was free luckily for us we walked the main street of town and found some really great shops including a goldsmith and some good rock shops.  We emerged after quite a good few hours and had lunch before heading to Columbia Falls where we went to the weekly farmers market to watch a band.  Now we didn't know what to expect and although they were young they played some really good 60-70s music which kept us there long enough to even buy our supper.  From there we drove a few blocks to Marantette Park where they had a 16 piece big band playing all the old 20-40s music.  What a great find, this area has lots of entertainment and when it was all finished we drove back into Hungry Horse Dam to have another nights free camp.
