July 2018 – Calgary Stampede
Had a big day today walking around the Stampede grounds,
looking at the exhibits and animals on show.
We went today because seniors got in free. The weather wasn’t too good but a lot of the
stuff we were looking at was inside pavilions so it didn’t matter. We wanted to see the Showband which was
supposed to perform on the steps of the Saddledome but due to the weather it
wasn’t on. We didn’t get to see the
Chuck wagon races either as they were in a separate arena which you had to have
advance tickets for. Anyway, we watched
a couple of the races on TV when we got home.
It was like a giant version of our Newcastle Show but instead of having
all the free entertainment in the centre ring, you had to go to that separately
and pay.
Culinary sculpture
Plenty of boots if you're that way inclined
Lunch under cover out of the rain
The Saddle Dome which I expected would have had something going on for the Stampede but it was empty. Maybe they have a nighttime show.
An old carriage with a couple of old geysers in it.
