Tuesday 3rd July 2018 - Alberta Canada

Friday 29th June 2018 - Border Crossing

So it's Friday and time to go to Canada to visit the cousins in Calgary.  So we'd used all the firewood, cooked and froze all our veggies and opened any wine we had all in preparation for our border crossing expecting to be searched as we were last year.  Well, we got there had a lovely chat with a young lady and off we went easy as pie.  You just never know when they're going to give you a hard time.  So we start driving north and start to realise that we are almost the only ones going north and that everyone is going south.  We're starting to think what's going on that we don't know about.  Maybe they are evacuating for some reason.  We eventually find out that we have arrived on Canada Day long weekend and they're all heading for Montana for the weekend.  Lucky for us we are going the opposite way.  It meant for easily finding somewhere to camp.  We had one night at Chain Lakes Provincial Park and one night in Okotoks before heading into Calgary where we are sleeping in a house for the first time in 2 months.

If you look above the obilisk you can see the straight line of the border

Saturday 30th June 2018 - Black Diamond, Okotoks

We drove to the historical little town of Black Diamond for a look around the shops and found the perfect present for Ian and Elaine

The perfect door mat

It turns out that there is a free music festival on in the park at the end of town so we went in for a couple of hours.  They had a whole heap of old fashioned games that we used to see at fetes in the 50's.  Here they are throwing a ball at a target and dunking the guy in the water.  Good fun.

Sunday 1st July 2018 - Calgary Canada

We arrived at Ian's place just as they were getting ready to go for late breakfast so we went with them and had lunch.  Another great old 50's diner.

Wednesday 4th July 2018 - Calgary

We've had a few days where the weather hasn't been so good so just starting to get out and about.  It turns out that the Calgary Bowling Club is just a few minutes walk from the house so we went over there to check it out.  Looks like we'll get a couple of games in while we are here.

Thursday 5th July 2018 - Calgaary

This morning we went for a long bike ride for about 20 klms (back on klms and not miles now) around the Bowness area and through parks and across multiple bridges and along the edge of the Bow River.  A most scenic and enjoyable ride.  We'll sit in the sun and relax this afternoon.

Ian caught the bear or the bear caught him, not sure which
