After a nice weekend in Island Acres State Park near Grand Junction we moved up the road a little bit to Rifle Falls State Park (about 30 miles away). Very quiet place, just a couple of other campers and the sound of running water. Went for a short hike where we spotted an animal we hadn’t seen before. Got some good close photos (thanks to my new camera with X16 zoom). Checked with the park ranger when we got back to find out what it was and they said it was a marmot and they didn’t know that they had any in the park so there you go.

The Marmot
The second night we stayed on the lake in Rifle Gap
A lovely spot but windy and cold
You’ll all be happy to know that I’ve utilized quite a few libraries along the way as they all have free internet and even let you plug into their power. We’re not quite that generous in Lake Macquarie
