North to Alaska continued - Saturday 3rd - 10th July 2010

The next stop was Sitka, this is a quieter town that started with the indians as there was a plentiful supply of food and vegetables and good fishing grounds.  As the ship came towards the bay you couldn't see a foot in front of you for the fog.  After we had been there for a while the fog lifted to reveal a beautiful village.  We took a hike to the top of the hill and strolled around the town.

They have a raptor rehabilitation centre there where we saw the bald eagle up close and personal.  In this area they call them Alaskan pigeons as they are so common.

Found a good library sign
