North to Alaska - Saturday 3rd - 10th July 2010

All the Erbs were booked to go on the inside passage cruise to Alaska so we decided that we would go with them if we could get on.  Now this is edge of your seat planning.  We had our names down on standby.  The cruise was sailing at 4.00pm and we arrived there at about 2.30pm with our bags in tow not knowing whether we would get on or not.  We were told that there was little or no hope of getting on as the cruise was fully booked and they could not give us a room unless somebody cancelled.  Even if they just didn't show up they couldn't give us the room as they might board at a later port.  Luckily for us and not so lucky for them there was a Polish couple who were refused entry onto the ship as they hadn't acquired a visa for Canada.  So, we were on.  The last ones up the gangplank at about 3.45pm.  We had a great week with lot's of entertainment and saw lot's of good sights.

First stop Juneau (this place was just full of jewellery shops)

We caught a bus out to the Mendenhall Glacier which was pretty good as we got up quite close to it and there was a massive waterfall

Did our Aussie photo by the waterfall
