Today we drove in the East side of Glacier NP and are staying at the Rising Sun Campground. From here we took a boat ride on St Mary's Lake which took us up to the other end of the lake from where we did a fabulous hike to St Mary's Falls , Virginia Falls and Baring Falls which were all stunning.
Getting on the boat
Minnie is getting excited
Cruising St. Mary's Lake
Here's where we got off. We then did a 2.5 mile guided hike with the ranger.
This is called bear grass although bears don't actually eat it but it was named this because bears are usually found near it.
St. Mary's Falls, at this point the guided tour turned around and went back to the boat but we decided to leave the group and head further up the mountain where there were a few more falls to look at.
Our lunch stop 'The Cascades'
Quite a steep hike about another mile up to Virginia Falls
Unusual tree formations on the way back to the boat
So this is the closest we've come to a black bear so far, missed it by that much. Our neighbours in the campground were just ahead of us on the trail and one walked right across the front of them.
Time to get back on the boat
Back in the campground and still no bears just squirrels and robins
