We had a great day today wandering through the Kootenay Rockies. We stopped at four small towns ending up at another hot springs where we camped for the night.
Kaslo is an historic small village with lots of ambience. We walked along the main street where wee came across the local librarian who was carrying out boxes of books for the markets that morning and told us to help ourselves to what we wanted so that's the reading sorted for the rest of the trip. The town also is home to the last steam driven paddle wheel crow boat left on the Kootenay Lake.

Love this great seat
The old fire station which is now an op shop
This is the town hall and the library is down the bottom
Sandon is a ghost town from the mining era. Now I don't know why it's called a ghost town as there are people living there and they are still mining silver. We happened to arrive on the very day they were having a blues festival with free camping but as they wanted $50 a head for the music we declined and just had a look around and left.
This is one of the engines that used to haul the ore from the mines.
The general store
A very old poker machine
This is the town before it all burnt down in 1897 and was rebuilt in 1898. There were 85 brothels and 20 hotels amongst many other businesses. Hard to imagine it in it's heyday.
Inside the museum, they had heaps and heaps of interesting stuff.
Outside of the museum
This is a hydro electric power station in the town that has been continually running since the early 1900's. It is fed by 4 streams and produces power for the few houses in the town and also sends power to the grid for the surrounding towns.
New Denver is where they interred the Canadian/Japanese citizens during the second world war. It is now a memorial site with beautiful Japanese gardens.
Nakusp is a hard name to say but is a great little town. We pulled in near the boat ramp and went for a walk along their promonade where we eventually came to a man made beach on the edge of the lake. I don't know where the sand came from but the sand looked just like our Jewells Beach at home including the black rutile. It's warm today but not quite warm enough for us to go in the cold water. We are heading for the hot springs.
How's this for a serious snow plow?
Time for another soak, this time in Nakusp Hot Springs where we are camping for the night.
