August 2018 – Take off time for four
The four of us have left Seattle heading for the Oregon
coast. We drove as far as Woodland to a
State Park but couldn’t get in but it turned out to be a turn for the better as
we ended up having a free camp in the nearby Ilani Indian Casino car park. Not only that, we got to see Sister Sledge
for entertainment which was free also.
Bargain. This casino was so flash
that it had rotating toilet seats in the
rest room. The seat had a plastic sleeve
on it and when you waved your hand past the sensor the seat wound around to
reveal a fresh covered seat. Hard to
explain and weird to watch but it’s an only in America moment. Wish I’d taken a photo.

August 2018 – Into Oregon
Today we travelled along the northern edge of the Columbia
River stopping to hike to the top of Beacon Rock for spectacular views and then
on to have a look around the Bonneville Dam which had a viewing area to watch
the fish migrating up the fish ladder.
We crossed the bridge of the Gods to the southern side of the river
where we found an RV Park at Corbett Oregon.

August 2018 – Almost to the coast
Driving west along the southern side of the Columbia River
today where we had a couple of hikes into some waterfalls, Lateurel and Bridal
Veil. We then drove north to Fort Stevens State Park which has an historic fort
which was commisioned to be built in 1862 and completed in 1865 one day before
the civil war truce was signed so it didn’t see any action until the second
world war when Japanese submarines fired nine shells harmlessly on the
fort. A theory is that they never returned fire as
the officers in charge were drunk.
Stopped by this building on the top of the mountain
