26th-28th July 2017 - Columbus OH

Travelling towards Columbus we called in to see the Hartman Rock Garden which was started by a man called  Ben Hartman who became unemployed in the 1930's but wanted to keep busy so used his skills to build patriotic and religious scenes throughout his garden.  After his death his wife continued to look after the garden and when she died a community group took over the care of the garden.

Found this frog in the pond

We stayed with Cherie's cousins for two nights and while we were there the Ohio State Fair just happened to be on so we thought we'd check it out.  Ate my first Pluto Pup (corn dog to the yanks) in 4 years since the last on I had was at the council picnic.

These are carved out of butter

Plenty of animals

A chook who took a fright

After leaving Columbus we went on a mystery tour with Cherie leading us to all the good things she found on the internet for us to look at.  Some things we found and some were just too obscure to find.  Here are the highlights.

After 8 miles on the busy motorway we came to this park full of cement corn cobs.  Now we have no idea why but we killed ourselves laughing.

The next stop was a 12ft high slate statue of an indian called Leatherlips.  This site was so obscure that we didn't even find it but we had a lovely drive through the hills of Amish country.

Then we went to Hershburger Farm and Bakery owned by the Amish

This is the mode of transport for the Amish people

They have beautiful big work horses

We then travelled through another couple of quaint little towns before arriving at Sugar Creek where they have a very large cuckoo clock in the middle of town

The band comes out on the half hour to play

Hughie went dumpster diving and when he came back with some good things us girls thought we'd have a go as well but we got greedy and stayed there too long and got told to move on.
