We arrived around lunchtime to be stuck in the traffic of
Nashville about 6 lanes of standstill.
You’ve gotta love these big cities.
Anyway we got through to the other side of town to a place called Poole
Knobs which is on the banks of J. Percy Priest Lake where there is a beautiful
campground in the recreation area. Also
the cheapest place we’ve stayed other than the freebies. Moon got us discount so $11 a night for two
campsites with water and electricity.
The water in the lake is warm and we had a couple of swims.
Here’s another only in America, this is a picture of the
boat ramp, I wonder where they thought it would end?
In the evening we went into town to Music Row which starts at the end of Broadway and 2nd Avenue. This is where they have all the honky tonk bars and all the artists strut their stuff in the hope of fame and fortune one day. It was back to back bars and bands so quite a lot of noise and energy. We went into a recommended bar called Roberts Country World and the band there was playing some of the music that we like so we got to have a couple of dances and a bologna sandwich.
Ooh Elvis careful with those hands
Wasted away again in Margaritaville
And this is at the other end of the block look out
Mini Vegas
Wednesday 19th July – State Capitol Nashville TN
Today we went in to have a look at the state capitol
building and whatever else we could find, the parking was almost non exisitent
but we eventually managed to find somewhere.
The State Capitol Building
We found out that Davy Crocket was a representative in the
house for Tennessee besides fighting in the Alamo.
This little girl says hi Tara
We then went in search of the country’s most interesting rest room which is situated in the Hermitage Hotel
This is the bathroom that the men used in their exclusive
bar within the hotel. This is the
shoeshine stand
This is great 1930’s art deco and there is a blocked off
doorway in here that leads to a tunnel where Al Capone and his cronies used to smuggle
the bootleg.
From there we went to the Grand Ole Opry for a look see
We were a little disappointed with the building as it didn’t
seem to have much character.
This is a new version that replaced the old one.
After all the sightseeing we had lunch in another honky tonk
bar next to the Dukes of Hazard Museum and the Willie Nelson Museum. They have a museum for just about everyone in
Nashville. All trying to make a buck or
two.
