Friday 18th August 2017 – More Massachusetts MA

Travelling along a lovely scenic route (2) heading towards New York.  Had a little rain today but still did a climb up to the summit of Wachusett Mountain which would have been a great 360 degree view but we couldn’t see a thing because of the rain and mist.  Never mind it was good exercise.  After that we spent the night in Gardner.

No view to show you but we did find a rare red spotted newt

This morning we went to Red Apple Farm and walked to the 1000 Acre Swamp where there was supposed to be plenty of wildlife but unfortunately we didn’t see any.

We then travelled on to Shelburne Falls which was a lovely little town with many things to see and do so we stayed there for the night.  This town was used as a film location for the movie ‘The Judge’ starring Robert Downey Jnr and Robert Duvall.

Anyone seen Chevy?

A view of the village from the Trolley Museum at the top of the hill

They have a Bridge of Flowers which is the old bridge for the trams that was made obsolete and the people of the town have turned the whole bridge into a garden.  It was very beautiful and added character to an already lovely town.

At the other end of town we found the weir and Salmon Falls which flows down through the world's largest amount of glacial potholes in one place formed 14,000 years ago with a glacier retreat.

Continuing along the Mohawk Trail (Route2) over mountains and through little picturesque towns.

Statue donated by the Brotherhood of Elks

We stopped at Natural Bridge State Park near North Adams for lunch.  This was pretty neat, formed from marble.  They used to quarry the marble but it is now a state park.

We then moved on to camp at Housatonic River State Park.

Cute little chipmunks here

Stacha has been the student bus driver for a couple of days.
