Tuesday 17th July 2018 - Still British Columbia

Tuesday 17th July 2018

Today we travelled to a few small towns on our way back to the border.  Greenwood, Grand Forks, Christina Lake, Castlegar, Trail and Rossland.

Greenwood main street with the Windsor Hotel built in 1899 and one of the longest operating pubs in British Columbia

Greenwood is known as the smallest city in Canada and became incorporated in 1897.  It was also used as a movie set by Universal Studios in 1998 for the movie "Snow Falling on Cedars"

The landscape is showing the signs of a wildfire that passed through here about 3 years ago.

Suspension bridge to Zuckerberg Island in Castlegar

The chapel

This island is very small and was in disrepair when Alexander Zuckerberg went out there to live and restore the site.  He and his wife are buried on the island.  There are the remains of ancient pit houses built by the indians.  There is also a monument to the victims of the Nagasaki and Hiroshima bombs.

The Castlegar Museum is housed in the railway station which is over 100 years old and was moved from between two lots of railway tracks to its current position.

And this is the original police station next door.
